What is Brave Browser?
Brave Browser is a web browser almost like most others, with the exception that it is anti-ads and pro- privacy.
Like most web browsers, it’s also free to use. It is based on the same Chromium project that is the power behind the Chrome browser. This means that most Chrome extensions are also compatible with Brave Browser.
The big difference is that Chrome is owned by Google, so has an interest in tracking you around the web and does not block ads by default.
From the moment you download Brave Browser, ads and trackers are blocked by default and you don’t need to go hunting around for ad blocker extensions, but if you have any extensions you currently use in Chrome or Firefox, they are most likely also available for Brave Browser, as it is fully compatible with extensions and add-ons on the Chrome extensions website. These means you can still fully customize it to your liking, but won’t have to worry about Google tracking you around or any of the other trackers or big ad companies tracking everything you do online and slowing up your internet to show you cluttering and distracting ads.
The fingerprinting feature bars third parties from tracking your activity. This feature can be activated in the settings tab.
Unlike most common browsers, Brave also helps to fight phishing and malware.
How fast is it?
The built-in ad and tracker blocking is one of the reasons that Brave Browser is faster than Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, etc.
Just watch the 50 second video below (no sound) which demonstrates how Brave is a lot faster than the others.
How many users does Brave have?
At the beginning of 2018, they only had 1 million users. At the end of it 5.5 million. That’s a 450% increase in user base over the year.
Update April 2020:
Brave now has 13.5 million monthly active users and 4.3 million daily active users
This screenshot is from a January 2019 update and shows Brave Browser active users per month in Millions.
Who is Behind Brave? Why should I trust this?
The Brave browser was co-founded by Brendan Eich.
Brendan works along with other notable names in the tech industry. There is Brian Bondy who co-founded Brave also. Yan Zhu is the Security & Privacy Engineering personnel and she formally worked with Yahoo. Scott Locklin is the current BAT Smart Contracts and Economic manager. He is also the co-founder of Kerf Software.
How to Earn BAT with Brave Rewards
After a lengthy wait, the much anticipated Brave Rewards was finally launched in April 2019. This means that users can now earn BAT tokens by simply opting in to viewing ads. The ads appear as notifications which can either be clicked on or closed, and you can choose to view a minimum of 1 and maximum of 5 per hour in the settings. The design is super slick and the dashboard is very easy to use.
What is this BAT thing about?
BAT is the Basic Attention To
ken (BAT), but what are BAT tokens? Simply put, BAT is an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain that enables users, publishers and advertisers to efficiently and fairly exchange value in return for viewing or producing content and ads.
Brave blocks all ads and trackers by default, which greatly speeds up loading times and improves privacy for the user. However, you can still change your preferences to allow specific ads and trackers on sites of your choosing. In return, you can receive BAT tokens from advertisers.
You can then choose to reward publishers for producing great content by making a monthly donation or through actively tipping.
How much can you earn from viewing Brave Ads?
The CEO of Brave Brendan Eich left a comment of his estimates. Brendan estimates that when Brave Ads will be released in 2019, users will be able to earn up to $70 per year by viewing an advertisement. He also estimated if Brave continues to grow in popularity as it has, users might be able to earn $220 or even higher by the end of 2020.
Their mission is to find a fair price for users attention after blocking all the fraud, arbitrage, and abuse in the current system, using the BAT ecosystem. By default, users revenue share will flow back monthly and anonymously to each user’s top websites and content creators on YouTube, Twitch, etc. Of course, by changing the defaults you will be able to withdraw Basic Attention Tokens. Send them to your Ethereum Wallet or just turn them into U.S Dollars, Euros or whatever. Those are you Tokens you can do with them whatever you want. Your tokens, your rules.
Get all the extensions you had in Google Chrome. Brave offers support for nearly all extensions that are compatible with chromium.

Brave Browser Dark Mode
These days some websites have started offering a dark mode.
I can’t imagine using some websites without the dark mode anymore, the white screen is just too bright to be staring at for long periods of time.
So Brave developers have taken notice of this trend and created a dark mode for their browser.
When inside Brave, simply go to – brave://settings/
